Impact of Our Work
From our founding in 2015 to today, we have grown the Lemur Conservation Network and our impact.
From 2015 to 2020, we helped scientists and organizations share their work in lemur conservation and promoted World Lemur Day. In 2021, we became a non-profit organization registered in the USA to increase our impact.
Since, we have created and distributed education materials and established partnerships for on-the-ground programs. In 2023, we launched our Supporting Membership program and to increase our ability to fundraise for Malagasy-led conservation projects.

IMPACT SUMMARY: 2021-2024
- 2024: Donated to 4 Malagasy organizations, and supported Malagasy conservationists with small grants and professional development. Partnered with Teach for Madagascar for rural education by sponsoring 4 schools and providing games for all schools in the program.
- 2023: Donated to 5 conservation organizations through Conservation Allies‘ matching campaign. We began partnering with Teach for Madagascar to sponsors 2 schools and bring teaching supplies about lemurs to schools across the island. We held education days with 3 communities.
- 2022: Donated over $5,000 through Conservation Allies‘ matching campaign. We began distributing our Lemurs card game to LCN member organizations across Madagascar, and held education days in 3 communities.
- 2021: In our first year as a non-profit organization, LCN donated $1,800 to Conservation Allies‘ first matching campaign for conservation organizations in Madagascar. We began creating our Lemurs card game with funding from IUCN Save Our Species.
2024 IMPACT
In 2024, LCN donated to 4 Malagasy organizations, supported Malagasy conservationists with small grants and professional development, and partnered with Teach for Madagascar for rural education.
Supporting Malagasy-led Conservation
Donations to Malagasy NGOs
- $600 to Madagascar Wildlife Conservation (MWC), doubled to $1,200 by Conservation Allies. MWC is one of the only organizations protecting the critically endangered Lac Alaotra Gentle Lemur.
- $600 to the Fosa Association, doubled to $1,200 by Conservation Allies. This is a new local association in Ankarafantsika National Park, home to coquerel’s sifakas.
- $1,000 to Explorer Home Madagascar.
- $1,000 to Ary Saina. This funding helped them launch a mentoring program that helps Malagasy PhD students publish their work in international journals.
Professional Development and Support for Malagasy Professionals
- Two $1,500 grants to Malagasy professionals. One started a new conservation initiative in Antahala. The other held a World Lemur Festival event in Toamasina which involved 500 students, 28 artists, and 5 local associations in the celebration of lemurs.
- Grew our Malagasy Student and Professional Membership to 22 individuals, eleven of whom completed paid science communications work for LCN.
Education
- Sponsored 4 schools near protected areas in eastern Madagascar through Teach for Madagascar, training 26 teachers and providing educational materials for 710 students.
- Provided our Malagasy language Lemurs card game for use in over 50 schools in Madagascar through partnerships with Teach for Madagascar and members of LCN.
- Reached hundreds of thousands of Malagasy people with educational posts about lemurs on LCN’s social media and Malagasy website.
Worldwide Engagement in Lemur Conservation
- World Lemur Day: At least 35 zoos participated in 2024 World Lemur Day, including at least 12 who participated for the first time. Provided our English language Lemurs card game to 27 zoos and 20 individuals in 2024, increasing our total distribution of the English games to 50 zoos and 33 individuals.
- Supporting Memberships: Gained 28 Supporting Members who support our work in Madagascar and Malagasy-led conservation projects.
- Online Engagement: The English website received ~150,000 views, and the Malagasy website received ~20,000 views. LCN’s Facebook achieved a reach of ~850,000 and 380,000 views; 53% of our Facebook audience is in Madagascar. Instagram achieved a reach of ~80,000 and 130,000 views; 9% of our Instagram audience is in Madagascar.
2023 IMPACT
In 2023, LCN donated to 5 conservation organizations through Conservation Allies‘ matching campaign. We began partnering with Teach for Madagascar to support rural education and bring teaching supplies about lemurs to schools across the island.
Supporting Malagasy-led Conservation
Donations to Malagasy NGOs
- $2,250 to Madagascar Wildlife Conservation (MWC) to protect the Lac Alaotra Gentle Lemur, doubled by Conservation Allies for a total of $4,500.
- $520 to Ny Tanintsika to protect lemurs in the forest corridor between Ranomafana and Andringitra National Parks, doubled by Conservation Allies for a total of $1,040.
- Small donations to Mikajy Natiora ($250, doubled to $500), Association Analasoa ($100, doubled to $200), and Fikambanana Bongolava Maitso ($125 doubled to $250).
Education
- Participated in National Lemur Day in Maromizaha, Madagascar
- Sponsored two schools and four Malagasy education volunteers through Teach for Madagascar.
- Provided our Lemurs card games to over 25 rural schools in Madagascar.
- Reached hundreds of thousands of Malagasy people with lemur-friendly messaging via LCN’s social media and website.
- Delivered our Lemurs card game and other education materials about lemurs to partners in four areas of Madagascar.
- Held lemur education days with two communities, a local school in Maraiarano, and the village of Ambodiforaha just outside Masoala National Park.
Worldwide Engagement in Lemur Conservation
- World Lemur Day: At least 30 zoos participated in 2023 World Lemur Day through in-person events. Provided our English language Lemurs card game to 23 zoos for their events.

World Lemur Day is celebrated on the last Friday of October. The World Lemur Festival is celebrated in Madagascar and around the world all October.
