Kianjavato

The communities of Kianjavato, along with Conservation Fusion and Madagascar Biodiversity Partnership, will be celebrating the World Lemur Festival!

Andapa: November 16

The festival will be celebrated with a parade, art and dance contests, lemur trivia and prizes, BBC film in Malagasy.

Also, this year, nurses that work for Lemur Conservation Foundation will be providing free family planning services (November 15 &16)  in the hospital in Andapa, which is very close to the main World Lemur Festival activities.

Through LCF collaboration with Marie Stopes nurses, they have treated over 500 women this year so far (and over 400 last year) with the 3-year contraceptive implant which is in huge demand.

Doana: October 11

The Andapa and Doana events are hosted by WWF Madagascar, the Lemur Conservation Foundation, Madagascar National Parks, the Duke Lemur Center, and the Wildlife Conservation Society, with support from SOS Lemurs initiative.

Lemur Conservation Foundation Celebrates the World Lemur Festival at the Ringling College of Art and Design

Celebrate and learn about Madagascar and its unique primates at the second annual World Lemur Festival. Enjoy activities for all ages. The Lemur Conservation Foundation is proud to partner with Ringling College of Art and Design and New College of Florida to bring this free, family-friendly celebration to our community for the second year in a row.

The World Lemur Festival is a series of international events held throughout the world in October to celebrate lemurs and raise awareness for lemur conservation. Events have been held in Madagascar, Hungary, Japan, Canada, Germany, and cities throughout the United States. The Lemur Conservation Foundation supports World Lemur Festival celebrations in both Andapa, Madagascar and Sarasota, Florida.

Activities for all ages include:
  • Juried Art Exhibition – featuring lemur-themed artwork by students and faculty from our partnering colleges
  • Free Raffle – don’t miss your chance to win a small, group tour at the Lemur Conservation Foundation’s private reserve in Myakka City, Florida
  • Fun and Games – conservation activities for children, including face painting, coloring, storytime, and more
  • Film Screenings – learn about lemurs and life in Madagascar
  • INKtober Drawing Demos – watch RCAD instructors Rebecca Zomchek (Illustration) and George Cwirko-Godycki (Computer Animation) draw ink images featuring lemurs right before your eyes
  • Expert Talks – featuring Dr. Erik Patel, LCF Conservation & Research Director, and Gary Schumer, RCAD Computer Animation Instructor and artist
  • Free Snacks – try Nature’s Path EnviroKidz delicious cereal bars and learn how EnviroKidz and LCF have partnered up to help save lemurs
  • Out and About Coffee – coffee available for purchase

Fall Festival at Leesburg Animal Park

The Leesburg Animal Park has incorporated World Lemur Festival activities into their annual Fall Festival this year.

These adorable lemur-themed painted hay bales are on display (pictured right). Visitors can visit the zoo’s ring-tailed lemurs, and enjoy the other activities at the festival. Activities include wagon rides, hay maze, corn bin, kiddie zip line, and more.

Tennessee Aquarium

Join us at the Aquarium for fun activities and keeper programs as well as a special screening of Lemurs 3D: Island of Madagascar at the Tennessee Aquarium IMAX 3D Theater!

This event will offer a kids craft station, keepers, interpretive, silent auction as well as enrichment with the lemurs. Funds raised will go to LCN Member Planet Madagascar which supports local communities in Madagascar.

This Junior Member event is suitable for those aged 8-17.

You will also get the chance to explore our field conservation work in Madagascar and plant your own tree sapling.
