Volunteer in Madagascar with the Great Projects

The Great Projects offers an exclusive volunteer opportunity in La Mananara, just 3 hours from Antananarivo, focusing on wild lemur research. Each day, volunteers trek through a stunning area of primary forest that is home to 10 different lemur species.

Accommodations for Volunteers

The field station where volunteers are based features a lovely field house, and the highest standard of accommodation of any lemur research project in Madagascar — beautiful new chalets in the forest, each with a private en-suite bathroom.

Lemur Species You May Encounter

The Anjozorobe-Angavo protected area contains the following lemur species:

  • Indri (Indri indri)
  • Diademed sifaka (Propithecus diadema)
  • Common brown lemur (Eulemur fulvus)
  • Eastern bamboo lemur (Hapalemur griseus)
  • Goodman’s mouse lemur (Microcebus lehilahytsara)
  • Aye-aye (Daubentonia madagascariensis)
  • Eastern woolly lemur (Avahi laniger)
  • Weasel sportive lemur (Lepilemur mustelinus)
  • Crossley’s dwarf lemur (Cheirogaleus crossleyi)
  • Sibree’s dwarf lemurs (Cheirogaleus sibreei)
