Madagascar

Ampombolava, Ankarafantsika

  • November 7th and 8th
  • World Lemur Day Celebration with Lemur Conservation Network, Planet Madagascar and Teach For Madagascar.
  • Celebrating with 4 schools and ~200 people with a carnival, educational activities about lemurs with the lemur card game, lunch, workshops and animations

Anjozorobe

  • Wildlife Madagascar will host a World Lemur Festival celebration on October 31 with the Fokontany near the Anjozorobe forest.

Efoetse

  • 31 October – 1 November
  • Lemur Love is holding a celebration for students, teachers, local associations, and community members from EPP Efoetse, EPP Marofijery, the Women’s Association, the Guides’ Association, the Fishers’ Association from the Commune of Efoetse.
  • With the support of our incredible partners and organisers Teach For Madagascar – TFM (TALY Corps), Madagascar National Parks, Campement de recherche Andranovao – Analasoa, and ABC Domino.

Ihofa Forest

  • 31 October to 02 November 2025: Ary Saina will hold a World Lemur Festival celebration for children and youth (ages 5–18). Through nature walks, biodiversity presentations, puzzle games, and hands-on ecosystem experiments, participants will explore the role of lemurs and the habitats that support them. Supported by a small grant from LCN.
  • Tree planting by Madagascar Biodiversity Partnership

Itampolo

  • World Lemur Festival celebration with 3 schools in Itampolo.
  • Organized by Mitia Andrianantenaina, with logistical support from the Turtle Survival Alliance, and support from a small grant from LCN.

Kelilalina, Ifanadiana

  • Friends of Madagascar’s Apple Tree Library hosted a month of learning about lemurs, using resources from the Lemur Conservation Network.

Kianjavato

  • October 31, Madagascar Biodiversity Partnership: Raising awareness with communities around Vatovavy East and Mahazava village by talking about the importance of forests and lemurs for the environment and for their community and listening to their concerns and ideas. Then, we continued the celebration by planting native forest trees around Vatovavy — planting 10,000 trees!

Lavovolo

  • The village of Lavavolo is collaborating with Conservation Fusion to hold a World Lemur Festival celebration.

Mahitsihazo, Sofia Region

  • Mikajy Natiora will host the World Lemur Festival for the Sofia region, in collaboration with DREDD and local community, and support from a small grant from LCN.
  • October 30: Traditional song and poetry contests, Quizzes, Film screenings
  • October 31: Conservation carnival, Opening ceremony speeches, Food and refreshments, Quizzes, Film screenings

Mangily and Tulear

Masoala

  • The Masoala Forest Lodge will have fun activities about lemurs for the kids in the village near the national park entrance.

Montagnes des Francais

  • Madagascar Biodiversity Parntership: At Tangalavaka Field Station (TAFS), around 3,500 trees were planted together with our dedicated local community.

Ranomafana

  • Centre ValBio is celebrating World Lemur Day with communities in Ranomafana.
  • Thursday, October 30th (8:00 AM – 12:00 PM): A special visit to Ranomafana National Park for local villagers who have never been, aiming to strengthen their personal connection to the forest.
  • Friday, October 31st (8:00 AM – 12:00 PM): The main celebration in Ranomafana town. The morning will kick off with a grand parade starting from the basketball field, followed by a small fair featuring educational booths (photo booths, memory games) for school children and the entire community.

Toamasina

  • World Lemur Day celebration at the Alliance Francaise Tamatave on October 31 with a school quiz contest and prizes
  • Organized by Diamondra Ranaivoson, with support from a small grant from LCN.

    Finding Lemurs: Walk around the park to find the hidden lemur panels. Fee: 300yen
    Keepers’ Talk ~Comparison~: Keepers will talk about the difference between lemurs and other primates.
  • October 18 @13:00:Keepers’ ACTIVE talk !?: Keepers will talk about lemurs jumping ability while they jump rope! Visitors will try Long Jump to challenge the lemurs after the talk.
  • October 19 @14:30 & October 31@13:00: True or False Quiz Competition ~All about Lemurs and More~
  • October 25~October 31@ 10:45~11:00, 14:30~14:45(weekday)/15:00~15:15(weekend): Special invitation to the Lemur Limited Zone! Fee: 300yen/person
  • November 1 @8:30~10:00: Special morning tour ~Let’s sunbathe together! ~ Fee: 4,000yen/person (meal voucher+ souvenir included)

  • To celebrate World Lemur Day, we will be hosting a guided tour on November 1st to introduce our lemurs to our visitors. Our zoo has three species of lemurs and aye-aye.
  • Additionally, we will be selling ice cream made with Madagascar vanilla, and a portion of the proceeds will be donated to MFG (Madagascar Fauna and Flora Group).

  • On Friday, October 31, anyone who visits the zoo dressed as a lemur will get a free 2025 World Lemur Festival sticker, while supplies last!

  • Our year-round Zoo Crew teens will be hosting fun activities for all ages, such as scavenger hunts, games, a dance party from 1:30-2:00 p.m., and even a “We Love Lemurs” parade from 2:00 to 2:30 p.m. During this event, learn about what Houston Zoo’s partners are doing to save lemurs in the wild in Madagascar. Dressing up as your favorite lemur is encouraged, just in time for Halloween!

    • Special Guest CAPLI will have a tent as well. Visit their tent to learn about their organization and how they forward conservation in Madagascar.
  • San Francisco AAZK Chapter is hosting a bake sale benefiting Lemur Love in the Education Foyer on October 31 from 12-2pm.

  • The zoo’s Wildlife Action Crew will focus on Lemurs & Deforestation in September and October.
  • This is a six-week class series for teens where they learn about a type of animal and its conservation in the wild, and then create a conservation campaign.
  • For the World Lemur Festival, the teens will create a video, social media posts, and an educational poster about lemurs. The zoo hopes to showcase their work on World Lemur Day on their social media platforms.
