Antrema Miray: Asociation IDENTI’TERRE

What We Do

The association IDENTI’TERRE works in co-management with the Antrema Miray (AMI) platform—which brings together local communities—on the conservation of lemurs and their habitat within the Antrema Biocultural Site, a Category IV protected area located in the Boeny region on the Katsepy Peninsula. The flagship species here is the crowned sifaka.

The association strives to sustain the perfect blend of conservation and Sakalava culture for the sake of sustainable development. Our primary task is to ensure the conservation and protection of animal species and their habitats, while supporting local communities in their socio-economic and socio-cultural development.

How We Protect Lemurs and Other Wildlife

The lemurs of Antrema are among the species considered taboo by local populations. Our conservation strategy is therefore rooted in this culture, and our efforts are focused on habitat restoration.

What Lemur Species We Protect

The lemur species that live in Antrema are:

  • Crowned sifaka (Propithecus coronnatus)
  • Mongoose lemur (Eulemur mongoz)
  • Red-fronted brown lemur (Eulemur fulvus rufus)
  • Antafia sportive lemur (Lepilemur aeclii)
  • Gray mouse lemur (Microcebus murinus)
  • Greater dwarf lemur (Cheirogaleus major)

How We Support Local Communities

We work to enhance the value of ecosystem services through technical and financial support, and the creation of income-generating activities such as ecotourism. We also support environmental education programs for local communities.
