Sambava and Andapa
World Lemur Festival, hosted by the Lemur Conservation Foundation
A large festival aimed both towards residents in Sambava as well as Andapa. Many public officials have agreed to attend including the Chef du Region (governor of the state essentially) as well as mayors of both cities, and more…
There will first be a large parade with many groups (students, women, environment clubs, and more) dressed in lemur themes. Then all activity will move to city hall where various activities will begin such as a dance competition, lemur art contests, poetry/story contests, question and answer sessions about lemurs and finally we will play the BBC Film in Malagasy (“Nosy Mahagaga”). There will be refreshments and prizes for the children.
The Lemur Conservation Foundation is the major financial sponsor and is delighted to have several other key partners, namely Madagascar National Parks (Andapa branch) as well as the World Wildlife Fund (Andapa branch).

World Lemur Festival, hosted by ONG Reniala
ONG Reniala is working closely with GERP to host a local WLF event for the South region. There will be a carnival with school children and local population ; outreach activities including an environmental quiz, drawing and coloring contest with school children ; as well as various dance and music animations.

Join the Smithsonian National Zoo and the Lemur Conservation Network at Lemur Island on World Lemur Day to check out the zoo’s lemurs, learn more about them, and enjoy some kids activities!

To celebrate the world lemur festival at the Leesburg Animal Park, we will have lemur themed arts and crafts, lemur themed coloring pages and activity sheets for kids and adults. There will be educational interactions with our Madagascar Hissing Cockroaches and there may be some educational appearances with Nadia, our black and white ruffed lemur.

World Lemur Festival Celebration at Salt Lake Community College
Salt Lake Community College students will be hosting an event on October 27 8:30-11:30 am. There will be games, prizes, and a bake sale to raise money for lemur conservation.

Loco For Lemurs, hosted by Duke University’s Roots & Shoots! We will be celebrating lemurs and selling the always delicious Loco Pops to raise money for lemur conservation.
Opening for “50 Years of Lemurs at Duke,” Thursday, October 27 from 4-6 pm
The exhibit will be display from October 20, 2016 to February 19, 2017 in the Chappell Family Gallery. The opening night event will feature brief opening remarks by Dr. Anne Yoder, followed by a drop-in reception with light refreshments in the gallery. DLC staff will be on hand to answer questions and share stories. This will be a low-key, fun social event, and you can stay for as little or as long as you’d like! No tickets, no charge, and no RSVPs required. All are welcome!

NIU Anthropology Club’s World Lemur Festival

NIU Anthropology Club will be hosting an event for the third annual World Lemur Festival founded by the Lemur Conservation Network (https://lemurconservationnetwork.org/2016-world-lemur-festival/) on Friday October 28th in the MLK Commons.
Lemurs are the most endangered group of primates on the planet, as they are being threatened by poaching and habitat destruction of the island of Madagascar.
Come by for information on lemurs, lemur conservation, and meet at least one human-sized Ring-tailed lemur! There will be opportunities to support Sadabe, an NGO focused on sustainable development, conservation, education, and research in Madagascar founded by NIU’s own Dr Mitch Irwin and Dr Karen Samonds (http://www.sadabe.org/support.html).

World Lemur Festival at Howletts Wild Animal Park
11:30 am to 2:30 pm every day from Sat 22nd Oct to Sat 29th Oct
Howletts Wild Animal Park in England is having a week of events for World Lemur Festival. It will involve games, education, kids’ colouring, and a ‘lemur experience’ fundraising raffle. Raffle proceeds will benefit the Aspinall Foundation’s work in Madagascar.
World Lemur Day at Miskolc Zoo
The Lemur Day at the Miskolc Zoo in Miskolc, Hungary will feature a variety of educational activities centered around the zoo’s species from Madagascar: the ring-tailed lemur family and female white-fronted lemurs, as well as the Madagascar hissing cockroach, gold dust day gecko, and Madagascan collared iguana. Guests will learn about these species and how to protect them, and can participate in a variety of fun activities for all ages.
